Sivula continues good form in Helsinki as Finland overcome China

 

Helsinki, Finland, 9 Jun, 2017 - Urpo Sivula led Finland to a second win in as many days, as the home side beat China 3-1 on Friday.


The Finnish star finished the match with 12-points. In a solid team effort by Finland Elviss Krastins scored 11 points and Sauli Sinkkonen - 10. Chuan Jiang of China scored an amazing 23 points but even his stellar performance was not enough for the visitors to force a tiebreak in Helsinki.

After a little nervous start in the first set both teams started to play excellent volleyball. Opening set was very tight and was still tied at 23-23. Finland got the last two points to 25-23 by their own attack and Chinese spike fault.




After the first half of the second set China took a few-point lead and finally increased it to four points ending the set at 25-21. China had good block and they made fewer mistakes than the Finns.



Finland came back in the third set improving their service and attacks. Finland took a nice 14-8 lead. China could close the gap to two points a couple of times, but the Finns were stronger at the end sealing the set at 25-21.


China took a strong start to the fourth set leading 12-6. Finland tied the set at 14-14, but China continued again to dominate the game. China was leading already 23-20, but Finland tied at 23-23. After a huge fight Finland won the set 27-25.
