Brilliant duo Masoud- Shafik takes Egypt to tiebreak win over Portugal

 

Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, 10 Jun, 2017 –Egypian duo Mohamed Masoud and Ahmed Shafik showed that team effort is key in volleyball as they scored 15 points each leading their team to a five-set win over the European side.


Portugal’s Lourenco Martins scored match-high 19 points, lack of support from teammates meant his team came up just short in the tiebreaker.

The first set was entirely dominated by Egypt with Portugal struggling to score points. It finished quickly, 25-16 to Egypt.



The second set was very similar to the first, Portugal wasn’t able to play equal game to Egypt who dominated and took the set with 25:17.




Third set was critical for Portugal. They knew that if they want to turn things around they needed to start playing well and that was exactly what happened. Portugal’s game became more competitive and they took the lead early on, and maintained it for the whole set. They took the third set 25:19.


Portugal also started the following set well, with Egypt trying to catch up. Portugal maintained their few-point advantage to take the set 25-21 and force a tiebreak.


Portugal started the breaker better and seemed more confident. They took the lead a few times but in the critical moments of the set they did not manage to seal the match which led to a thrilling finish. Finally Egypt was more lucky and won 19:17.
