Slovenia lost concentration but managed to win, says Kovac

Slovenia celebrate

Takasaki, Japan, June 11, 2017 - Slovenia coach Slobodan Kovac is happy about 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 26-28, 25-21) victory over Turkey, but blames his team for loosing concentration in the third set. Klemen Cebulj and Tine Arnaut scored 22 points each as Slovenia defeated Turkey in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 26-28, 25-21) on the final day of second-round action in Group 2 of the 2017 FIVB World League on Sunday.
Slovenia coach Slobodan Kovac: I'm happy about the victory. But another time we gave a team a chance to believe. In the third set we had a big lead but didn't have the concentration to close the match immediately. We gave Turkey the possibility to do something more. If we want to be better we must try not to have these things.

Slovenia captain Tine Urnaut: I think we played pretty good in the first two sets. In the third set after leading for many points we started to make too many mistakes. We did not have any quality play coming from our side and the opposition put us into difficulties and then they match changed. They started to play better. They defended better, attacked better. I'm happy that at the end of the fourth set we made some important points that let us win this match.

Turkey coach Joshko Milenkoski: We lost some chances in the first two sets. We were playing without our opposite due to injury. This was a big problem for us. In the last two sets we played with some young players and they started to fight very good. They played with motivation. We won the third set and had some chances in the fourth set, but we made some easy mistakes in the final points and lost. I think Slovenia will qualify for the Final Four in Australia.

Turkey captain Arsian Eksi: We lost 3-1 today to Slovenia. We know they are a good team because they were a finalist team in the European Championship last time. After two sets we came back with much better defense and service, but we could not finish the game. We will go to China next and do our  best there to try and qualify for the finals. We had a big advantage before we came here with nine points, but we couldn't use it and lost three games here. We have problems playing without our opposite and with injuries. I hope we will fix these problems for the next round.
