Trying too hard may have cost Brazil a set

Pesaro, Italy, June 3, 2017 – Too hard an effort may have cost Brazil the first set in the World League match against Iran on Saturday in Italy, eventually won in four sets.

Renan Dal Zotto, coach of Brazil: “We started the match with a lot of energy. Maybe we have put too much effort at the start. Starting from the second set, we managed to balance the rhythm. Iran played very well anyway. We hope to get better and to improve ourselves step by step. Tomorrow against Italy it will be hard. They are playing quite well, but we believe in ourselves.”

Bruno Rezende, captain of Brazil: “We still need to build up our rhythm. In the first set we made many mistakes. The important thing at the moment is working hard and getting better, winning matches after matches...”

Evandro Guerra, player of Brazil: “This is an important victory for us. We have increased the pace starting from the second set. In the fourth set we made many mistakes, but at the end we managed to win the match. Last season in Brazil was pretty satisfying for me, and I am feeling very well.”

Igor Kolakovic, coach of Iran: “It was a balanced game from the beginning through to the end. All the sets were played point for point. In the last set, Brazil was always in the lead, but we never gave up and fought for every point. Tomorrow, against Poland, it is going to be another difficult match for us. Today we played against the Olympic champions, yesterday - against the Olympic vice champions, and tomorrow - against the world champions... I will be happy if we are on the same level as today."
