Improved competitive spirit brings positive result for USA

Pau, France, June 9, 2017 – The coaches and the captains of USA and Italy were obviously on the opposite ends of the emotional spectrum after the Americans shut out the Europeans in a World League clash in Pau on Friday.

John Speraw, coach of USA: “We are very happy with this win. We really improved our volleyball and competitive spirit. The conclusive moments of the sets were very interesting.”

Kawika Shoji, captain of USA: “We are very, very happy with the result! Last week was very difficult. We were focused on this game. We trained very hard and stayed positive. Each player played very well tonight.”

Gianlorenzo Blengini, coach of Italy: “It was not a good match. We did not receive well and were not able to find solutions at the net.”

Simone Buti, captain of Italy: “Today is not a good day. We did not play like we did last weekend. We must work harder for our next matches.”
